Employee handbook in the Netherlands

Statutory handbook components, GDPR-compliant policies, house rules, and code of conduct tailored to Dutch employment law.

Building a compliant employee handbook

An employee handbook in the Netherlands is more than an internal reference document. It serves as a binding extension of the employment contract, establishing house rules, disciplinary procedures, and workplace policies that Dutch courts recognise in labour disputes. Under GDPR and the Dutch Implementation Act (UAVG), handbooks must also address data processing, employee monitoring, and privacy rights with precision.

Octagon creates handbooks that cover every statutory obligation while remaining practical and readable. We address leave entitlements under the Work and Care Act, sickness reporting protocols required by the Gatekeeper Improvement Act, expense policies, remote working arrangements, and code of conduct provisions. Each handbook is localised for the Dutch legal context and reviewed against the applicable collective labour agreement.
